National leprosy control programme

1990's: 5lakh leprosy cases, majority of cases from West Bengal, Orissa, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Utter Pradesh.


1955: GOVT. Initiated National Leprosy control programme (NLCP).


1982: Introduction of Multi Drug Therapy (MDT).


1983: After introduction of MDT the NLCP was redesigned as National Leprosy Eradication Programme (NLEP).


1991: The objectives of NLEP was redefined which emphasized the elimination of leprosy.


2006: Introduction of Disability Prevention and Medical Rehabilitation (DPMR) as a part of NLEP and Guidelines were set in 2007.
